The NYC Financial Justice Hotline is for community groups and low-income New Yorkers. The hotline provides information and referrals regarding:

            • Credit Reporting & Repair
            • Unfair Debt Collection
            • Rent-to-Own Stores
            • Payday Loans
            • Tax Refund Loans & "Rapid Refund"
            • "Courtesy Overdraft" & "Bounce Protection"
            • Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT)
            • Access to Bank Accounts


Hotline Days and Hours

The Hotline is staffed on Tuesdays from 4-6 and Wednesdays from 11-1. Callers can leave a message anytime. We will return all calls as soon as possible.

Resources for Consumers

NEDAP has compiled a series of documents answering frequently asked questions about consumer rights and how to resolve common problems. You can find these documents in the resources section of our site, on our resources for consumers page.

Issues Not Covered by the Hotline

The Hotline addresses non-mortgage consumer financial services. People facing foreclosure should contact the Foreclosure Prevention Hotline at South Brooklyn Legal Services, at (718) 246-3279.

The Hotline does NOT provide information on the following issues:

  • Bankruptcy
  • Debt Consolidation and Credit Counseling
  • Small Claims Court
  • Student Loans
